Here is just a glimpse of what we have been doing in Sycamore...

2024/2025:

Art:

In Art we finished our Great Waves, inspired by Hokusai using a technique called Zentangling. The children had all showed some real patience with these, but are very proud of the end result.

English:

In English, we have started exploring our new book 'Escape from Pompeii'. Before reading, we researched Mount Vesuvius and created some eye-catching fact files using our skills to paraphrase information that we had found into our own words.

Art:

In Art, we looked at Hokusai's famous views of Mount Fuji. We are planning to create our own versions of 'The Great Wave'. Today we began by practising the technique we will be using, it is called Zentangling.

Design and Technology:

In D.T we studied sculptor Antony Gormley and his world famous sculptures. We looked closely at some of his wire figures that represent human form and attempted some ourselves using wire! We think they came out looking great!

2023/2024:

Get Medieval:

We had a brilliant day with 'Get Medieval'. We learnt how to fight as Vikings, explored mythical beasts and had a great afternoon taking on the roles of historic characters in Anarchy 1138.

Design and Technology:

In D.T, we have started our CAM-toy project. We have begun by exploring what a CAM is, what it does and how different types of CAMs produce different movements.

Look at some of our brilliant finished working CAM toys!

In English, we have started reading Stormbreaker. We are three chapters in and the children used super retrieval and detective skills to produce character-profiles. Their posters were so well-thought out, creative and eye-catching!

In English, we read The Lorax, then created a comic-style recount of the story using clear time connectives to link our plot-points.

In Maths, the children showed brilliant resilience when attempting the Four-Fours investigation. Look at their very impressive maths!
