Class 4‎ > ‎

September 2014

Welcome back after what we trust was a relaxing and safe time over the summer. The teachers in Class 4 are Mrs Louis and Mrs Barry. Mrs Louis is in school on Mondays, Tuesdays and on Wednesday mornings. Mrs Barry is in on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. If there is anything that you would like to talk to us about, or just to say hello, then there will usually be one of us around in the morning as the bell rings or you can find us for a chat after school.

This half term, we will be learning about our local area, the UK and Europe. The details of what will be covered in different subjects are on our curriculum map on the back of this letter.

We will continue to have a PE lesson each week with Premier Sports on a Thursday. There will also be one other lesson P.E lesson each week. This half term, the second P.E lesson will be with Mrs Louis. It will take place on Monday or Tuesday afternoon (depending on the weather). We would like to remind you to make sure that P.E kits are always in school, as there are sometimes extra activities or weather-related P.E timetable changes. Your child will need indoor and outdoor kit this half term. Please make sure they have a carrier bag or shoe bag to keep muddy trainers in. Later in the year, there will be an opportunity for everyone to go swimming.

Homework in class 4 tends to change and develop as the year goes on. To start with, there will be spelling homework set by Mrs Barry on a Friday. This will be due in on Thursdays. This will start up after the year 5s have been on the Aylmerton residential trip, although there may be some spelling challenges set before this. In literacy, everyone will also be expected to deliver a two minute talk to the class each term. More details will be sent home as the date for your child’s talk draws near. Maths homework will be set on the Mathletics website by Mrs Louis during the first half of each week. Passwords and login details will be given out after Aylmerton. If there are any problems with accessing Mathletics at home, your child is welcome to ask to use the school computers at break time to complete their homework. Mrs Louis would also like you to be aware that it is of the utmost importance that children are learning their multiplication tables at home. Also, please remember that your child should be reading at home every day - either on their own or to an adult. Later this half term, we will be introducing learning journals to encourage your child to share their learning with you. More details to follow soon.

Other things to remember this year, are that everyone needs a painting apron in school for messy art activities. A large old shirt or T-shirt is ideal for this.

Don’t forget that children are welcome to bring a snack to eat at mid-morning if they would like to. This should be fresh or dried fruit. There are also fruit snacks available from the kitchen for 20p.

If anyone has any particular health needs or food allergies that we should know about, please let us know. It is also important that we are aware of which children need inhalers. If your child uses one, please remember that one must be kept in their tray in school.

Please feel free to come and find us and talk to us if there is anything that is worrying you. We will always try our hardest to sort out any problems and to ensure that everyone has a happy and productive year.
